What does a bookkeeper actually do?
We assist with the processing of your financial transactions (warning: bookkeeping jargon follows). This includes, but isn’t limited to:
Bank account reconciliation
Accounts payable – entering bills and receipts into accounting software
Making payments – uploading batch files to your bank for authorisation
Accounts receivable – Entering job costs and raising invoices for payment by clients
Debtor management – Following up overdue invoices
GST processing and filing
Payroll processing and PAYE filing with Inland Revenue
Monthly/quarterly reports
There are some tasks that I would like done which are not covered on your list, can you still help?
Please let us know if there are tasks that you need done that may not be mentioned on our services page. All businesses have different needs especially as you grow in size, chances are we can cater to your requirements.
Why should I outsource my bookkeeping?
I come across many business owners who work on the tools all day or are busy managing jobs only to come home to a pile of admin to do in the evenings. Although this may be possible at the start of your journey, it is not sustainable long term if you want to continue to grow your business. Plus let’s be honest you don’t enjoy admin and it’s not your strong suit so it just makes sense to outsource it to a Certified Bookkeeper like us.
Do you have to come to my premises to take care of my bookkeeping?
With all accounting software being cloud-based, there is no need. Everything can be done remotely. However, we do like to catch up regularly with our clients either by phone or in person. It could be arranged (for larger clients) that we come to your premises to do some work each week/month, but we generally wouldn’t work entirely from your office.
Do you file End of Year Accounts?
No, we do not provide year-end tax preparation services. But we can assist with your GST returns and as part of our services we keep your books accurate and tidy so by the time your accountant looks at your books they can use the information to calculate and advise your tax position.
What is the difference between an accountant and a bookkeeper?
This is how I like to explain what a bookkeeper is: A bookkeeper is like an accountant, but bookkeepers tend to manage the more day to day financial applications of a business whereas accountants tend to focus on end of year accounts, high level accounting and tax advice. It’s not a matter of one versus the other. Both have specialised experience and knowledge for the tasks they perform.
Do you only use Xero?
We exclusively use Xero. Xero is an amazing software which is a great fit for most small/medium sized businesses.
Do you only work with tradies?
We believe it is an asset that we are specialists in the trade industry. However, we do have some clients who are not in the trade industry and we love working with them too. If you are in the non tradie category, please feel free to get in touch so we can see if we can help.
